Tyler Quillin
Tyler Quillin is a Principal Corporate Counsel at Microsoft Corporation, supporting various aspects of Microsoft gaming ecosystem, including Xbox hardware and devices, cloud gaming, and emerging gaming technologies. Tyler brings a background in providing legal support for all types of technology deals, including SaaS, AI, IP/Licensing, master services and supplier agreement, in both commercial and enterprise spaces.
Tyler earned degrees in both Philosophy and English Literature through the Honors College at the University of Arizona. He self-nominated into the Honors College and completed two honors theses, one in each of his majors, earning the DaVinci Award at graduation. He was heavily involved at the U of A, including serving as a student-body senator, among other roles, with ASUA, a director for UA Activities Board, a student organizer for the UA Votes2008 campaign, and the musician for the Charles Darwin Experience, the improv comedy troupe on campus. Coming from an immigrant family, education was an important pillar of his family background.
After graduating from the U of A, he joined Teach For America which brought him to the Big Island of Hawai’i, teaching 6th and 7th grade special education. While in Hawai’i, he earned his Masters in Teaching Special Education from Chaminade University of Honolulu. After completing his Teach For America commitment, he and his now wife moved to the Bay Area to continue teaching. His wife and kids relocated to the Pacific Northwest where Tyler then earned his law degree from the University of Washington School of Law.
Prior to joining Microsoft, Tyler was an associate attorney at Davis Wright Tremaine LLP, an AmLaw100 law firm based in Seattle, WA, practicing in their technology transactions group. Tyler represented all types of clients from large multinational companies to small tech startup companies in all sorts of technology deals. Upon joining Microsoft, Tyler supported Microsoft’s cloud solution, Azure, as its engineers built industry-tailored solutions for the cloud. However, Tyler recently transitioned into a new role supporting the Xbox team build out the future of gaming.
When Tyler isn’t working, he is a family man with a wife and four kids. He is a diehard Arizona Wildcat and loves cheering on our ‘Cats across all sports! He serves on a number of nonprofit boards, including as president-elect of the Latina/o Bar Association of Washington, the King Country Bar Association, New Lawyers Division, Board of Trustees, the Teach For America-Washington Alumni Board, and more. Tyler is heavily active in providing pro bono legal services to the community, including representing a clients through the Northwest Immigrant Rights Project, through the Seattle Clemency Project, the Promise for Justice Initiative, Street Law, and various legal clinics.
