Deborah Summers
Deborah Summers (Debbie), a native Tucsonan. Retired recently after 40 years in education including five years internationally. Debbie was a teacher, assistant principal, and principal with her school earning national magnet awards for their outstanding programs. During her career, she served in leadership positions in local, state, and national organizations. She coached several sports at the junior and senior high school levels, earning coach of the year honors for girls’ basketball. Debbie, working with her staff transformed her local public school and a school in China into Project Based Learning models. While in China she presented at several educational conferences and collaborated with several local Chinese public schools. Currently, she is doing consulting work with a school in China
During her teaching career Debbie, working with the University of Arizona, served as a mentor to junior high students who would be the first member of their family to attend college. She had several student teachers and administrative interns along with working with her staffs at her schools. Debbie looks forward to the next phase of her life as she gives back to the University of Arizona and current Wildcats as we work together to develop our personal and professional skills through the Wildcat Mentor Society.
